		<description>

I’m a disability-identified writer, scholar and documentarist and the founder of the Alternative Toronto digital archive project. As a whole, my work explores the cultures and textures of cities, with a focus on memory, sound and social movements.

I’m currently based at the Lakeshore Village Artists’ Co-op in New Toronto and work as Communications Director
at the Media Arts Network of Ontario. I previously taught at McGill University and the University of Toronto and was a Visiting Scholar at NYU in New York City, where I fell in love with public history and community archives.
I’m working on a new version of this website but am keeping this one updated for now. Feel free to get in touch.

		<description>Director
Alternative Toronto2016–2020
Alternative Toronto is a digital archive and exhibition space that documents Toronto’s arts and activist communities of the 1980s and 1990s. The project uses the Omeka CMS and a community-driven archive management process to create digital collections of user-contributed materials. In the project’s pilot phase, we collected over 500 unique artifacts, facilitated eighteen collections and co-curated four exhibits.
Alternative Toronto received support from the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council and the McLuhan Centre for Culture and Technology, and was the recipient of an&#38;nbsp;ActiveHistory.ca award for exemplary practices of active history.

	Freelance writer, editor and photographer
2004–present

	TEXT

	I’ve been writing for the web since 2004.

I was a regular contributor to Metroblogging Montreal from 2005–2008 and an active member of Yulblog, the longest continuously running bloggers’ meet-up in North America.

My work has since appeared in the&#38;nbsp;Chronicle of Higher Education, Times Higher Education, TOPIA, Sounding Out,&#38;nbsp;The Fifth Estate, and Boing Boing.

I’m currently the editor of&#38;nbsp;LVAC News, the online newsletter of the Lakeshore Village Artists’ Co-op. Shortlisted in 2023, LVAC News won the Co-operative Housing Federation of Toronto’s award for Best Website in 2024.

PHOTOGRAPHY

My work blends documentary and street photography to capture fragments of everyday life in the city. The images I shoot are about noticing and listening, and derive from the experience of being in relationship with a place. I’m drawn to historical continuities and the way they frame how people live in the present. I also quite like buildings, surfaces and cats.
